Phase Out
If you were to build a minimalist, lifelong pedalboard using any pedals in the universe, which 3 pedals would do the trick?
Electro Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb, Death By Audio Fuzz War, Boss RE20 Space Echo
Windfall
What unexpected piece of music gear has inspired you the most?
My Danelectro 12 string - it feels like a synth pad, which allows room for me to easily write vocal melodies.
Pine Away
What piece of music gear do you wish you still had, and/or perhaps something you regret not buying when you had the opportunity?
I never should have sold my first American Fender Jazzmaster. My buddy still gigs with it to this day, so at least it's in good hands.
Wild Card
Please, will you share your guitar journey with us? Starting from your first guitar up until your most recent, and which ones were keepers?
My first electric was the above mentioned 2006 Fender Jazzmaster in cream white. I then got my dream guitar, a 1963 Fender Jazzmaster, all original with p-90 picks ups. Then a melody maker, which I sold. A 94' tele in Lake Placid Blue. Jewel tone knobs, and EMG pick-ups. A purple sparkle twelve string Danelectro. A walnut Gibson SG. Fender gave me a Pawn Shop Series Supersonic in orange sparkle with a reverse headstock. The humbuckers purrr. Then Fender gave me a mint green Duo Sonic and a red Mustang. Picked up a Danelectro Stock ‘59 in outta site white. Last year I found a 1964 Fender mustang in sunburst, all original and pristine. A few months ago I picked up a Fender P-bass in all white. And then all the guitars I've smashed....
Final Thoughts
Any shout outs, plugs, or random tidbits of advice?
Don't feel silly for choosing gear based on its appearance. I always fall in love with the shape of a guitar, it's color or the wood of its neck first. There's no shame is wanting your gear to be beautiful and sound great. It doesn't need to be mutually exclusive.
