Can you tell us about one song that has activated some deep emotions and influenced you as a songwriter?

There’s definitely tons of songs that do that for me. It’s hard to pick one! I’ll just choose some elements from each. For example, I love the feelings that are evoked from songs like “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears or “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac. I love the simplicity yet powerfulness of the lyrics in most Tom Petty songs. I like the cleverness and catchiness of lyrics from The Lawrence Arms. All of those songs and bands are super important to me and definitely influenced me as a songwriter.

What is one song that you’ve written that you feel a unique connection to-something you’re damn proud of?

I think “Recluse in the Making” is one that’s got the feeling of uniqueness and connection to me. It’s a little more specific than most of my songs and I wrote it during a time of being burnt out with work and school and music all at once. I think the overextending yourself is a pretty relatable feeling for a lot of people and I tried to express the sad reality that those few hours you get to yourself after working all day is the only time you really get to live your life the way you want, and you’re already tired! I have to tell myself a lot that you have to do your best to make the most of those hours.
